Jurgen Klopp Should Sell This Liverpool Star – Says The Former Chelsea Striker

The future of Daniel Sturridge is always up for discussion, especially when he puts in a poor performance, similar to the one that was against Southampton. While the Reds did lose in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg, it could have been a different story had the Englishman scored from the chances provided to him.

Sturridge has been linked with a move away from Anfield for a number of weeks and another pundit has come out and stated that Jurgen Klopp would be selling the star striker should a decent offer come in for the former Chelsea striker.

Craig Burley, a former midfielder for the Blues was speaking to ESPN FC and stated:

“Klopp will look at his overall contribution, although he hasn’t played all the time.

“He’ll look at his fitness and the issues that he’s had. He’ll look at the flexibility that he doesn’t give them, that other players do.

“I think he’ll see him as surplus to requirements.

“If Klopp wants to take Liverpool to the next level, he’s going to have to get these guys out and get his men in.

“He’s started to get some of his own men in, he signed Coutinho to a longer deal and he brought Mane in.

“But clearly when everyone’s fit, Daniel Sturridge – who is a talented player – is surplus to the requirements of the starting XI.

“That doesn’t suit the player or Liverpool. They may as well try and get some money for him.”

The Englishman hasn’t started too many games but that has been due to a combination of injuries and a lack of form. The Premier League giants from Merseyside have preferred to play with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho in attack and Sturridge isn’t the right kind of player to fit into the current playing style at Liverpool.

“The big problem is that Liverpool will not get a straight deal with anyone who wants to take Sturridge because the history of injury problems,” he added.

“He’s second string. If Liverpool can get anything like decent money for him they’ll do it in the summer.

“Jurgen Klopp wants a player who’s more flexible and has more energy.

“He wants someone who’s quicker and can play in several positions while giving that bit of quality – and Daniel Sturridge doesn’t give that.”

Liverpool have been linked with a number of strikers and attackers and it does seem that time is up for Sturridge. Barring a miracle, the striker would be sold in the summer but it is a big question as to what kind of value the Merseyside club would get for the Englishman.

This was often stated as the last chance for the Englishman to do well at a big club and it seems even this move has not turned out well for one of the best finishers in the game.
