Liverpool Look To Complete Deal For French Left-back And Give A Rest To Milner

Liverpool have had issues with a few positions this season and one of them is the left-back slot. While Alberto Moreno has failed to impress Jurgen Klopp and has spent most of the time on the bench, James Milner has had to give up a claim for the midfield and has deputised well in this new role.

The former Leeds United and Manchester City star has had a number of great performances but he is not a natural defender and isn’t a long-term solution for the Merseyside club. The Premier League giants have been linked with a number of players to fill this role and Telefoot

from France reports that the Reds wants to sign Lyon defender Jordy Gaspar.

The 19-year-old recently broke into the first team at the Ligue 1 giants and has played in three games so far. While the defender has played as a right-back in his appearances, he can play on the other flank as well and that is one reason why the Reds are interested in the French youngster.

The report also claims that Gaspar’s agents have been in advanced negotiations with Liverpool and Serie A club AC Milan. Gaspar has also garnered interest from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina and it will be interesting if he does make a switch from Ligue 1 in the summer.

The 19-year-old is versatile enough to play in midfield also but the Reds need a quality defender in their side and while Gaspar has a bright future ahead of him, he might not be the number one option for Klopp and his team.

The club already have the likes of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold to cover the two full-back slots for the future. What they actually need is a first-team player who can slot into the team and provide quality with experience.

Sead Kolasinac is one such player from Bundesliga side Schalke and Jonas Hector from Koln have been rumoured to be on the radar of the club and they will surely be a better option for the present than the bringing in the Lyon youngster.
