Liverpool boss has gone public about Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze, stating that he is 100% convinced about the player. Klopp was quoted by Bild as saying that Gotze has struggled because of his health problems but will soon work his way back to normalcy.
This is sure to intensify the news about Liverpool trying to sign the German world cup winner. Gotze was earlier linked with a move to Liverpool, with reports claiming that a £20 million
deal was on the cards in the summer. However, the reports have since cooled down, and now, Klopp’s comments about the 2014 World Cup hero is sure to cause some ruffle.Gotze initially moved away from Dortmund and joined Bayern Munich, before a horrible stint with the German champions forced him to move back to Dortmund again. Dortmund paid £20 million
to re-sign the player and would surely be keen on recouping the amount they spent to sign the talented midfielder.Mario Gotze has made a paltry 16 appearances this season and has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists. Gotze played his best football under Klopp, so reuniting with the German manager at Liverpool was a conceivable idea. However, the lure of a return to Dortmund proved stronger, then Gotze soon faced problems.
Diagnosed with a thyroid issue, Gotze is recovering and will again try to get back to his peak fitness. Klopp was quoted as saying,
“The health problems of Mario Gotze are a very logical explanation for one or the other problem that has occurred in recent years. I am just glad that this has now been discovered. In the end, many people will hopefully have to pay their respects. That would be quite right for me because I am 100% convinced by the boy.”
Though Gotze is going through a rough patch in his career, he still remains a quality player and there is no doubt about his obvious talent. The prospect of Gotze to Liverpool sounds exciting but the possibility of the transfer looks dim but surely, he would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad.
