Liverpool Could Complete £30m Transfer – Club Chairman Confirms Interest

On-loan Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is being targeted by his loan club Crystal Palace on a permanent basis. Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish said that the clubs need to arrive at a suitable financial solution in order to complete the move. He also heaped some praise on the defender and admitted that he is a very good player and that they like him.

Sakho joined Crystal Palace on loan in January after he was frozen out of the Liverpool team by Jurgen Klopp. Since the Frenchman’s arrival, Crystal Palace have gone on a remarkable run and have pulled themselves out of relegation fears. Palace ensured safety when they beat Hull City 4-0 last weekend.

Sakho was instrumental in Palace’s amazing run that saw the Eagles beat the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal. Palace also beat Liverpool later on but Sakho was not involved against his parent club.

The Crystal Palace chairman did not hide his plans and admiration for the player. He was quoted by the Independent

,

“The money needs to work for us and for Liverpool. I’m sure there’ll be a negotiation on that. If we can make it work, of course we’d like to, I’m not going to try and be coy or clever on that. He’s a very good player and I think he likes being with us. We like him. Let’s hope we can do it. You cannot con anyone that he did not make a massive difference… It is one we would like to do.”

Sakho made 8 appearances for the Eagles and looked sharp. But unfortunately, a ligament injury that he suffered in Palace’s 1-0 loss against Tottenham has ruled him out for the season and has already missed their Premier League games against Burnley, Manchester City, and Hull City.

Whether or not if the deal would go through remains to be seen, but the interest from Crystal Palace is a welcome one, considering the scenario at our club.

The defensive struggles are obvious and surely we need some strengthening. Sakho has been in good form since January but we wouldn’t say he is the solution to our defensive problems. If a team is ready to offer a good sum for the out of favour Sakho, then accept it happily and spend that money on a quality defender who would be able to keep it tight at the back.

Do you think Liverpool should sell Sakho?
