As the frenzy goes on about the possible summer arrivals at Anfield, there’s news about an imminent exit from the club that has emerged. Out of favour Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom is reportedly
set to complete a move to Derby County. The 24-year-old defender, who joined Liverpool in 2008 from Bradford and made his first-team debut in 2012 has agreed to a permanent move away from Anfield after making 22 first-team appearances in all competitions. The deal is expected to cost around £4.5m, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Englishman has spent the majority of his Liverpool career on loan away from the club, with spells at Derby County, Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion, and most recently, RB Salzburg.
The versatile defender made 25 appearances for the Austrian club last season and returned to Anfield as a double winner after picking up the league and cup titles.
It never really looked like he was going to make it big at Liverpool and now, Liverpool Echo have reported that Wisdom is set for a permanent switch to Derby County. The report claims that the deal is worth more than £2m initially, with the extra payments due when achievable targets are reached.
It looks like Derby had made an official approach last week. However, we seem to have rejected the £1m offer.
If the deal happens, Wisdom will be the first departure of the summer. Although losing a player is never a good thing, the sale of Wisdom only increases our expectation of a new and a bigger arrival at Anfield.
If Klopp really wanted to have some depth in the squad, he’d have kept hold of Wisdom. But now that the Leeds-born defender is set to leave the club, expect Klopp to sign a big name defender and keep Matip and Lovren, as well as Klavan.
Now that looks decent to me!
