Liverpool Look To Further Strengthen Attacking Department As Klopp Targets Argentine Striker

Maxi Romero, one of the brightest players from Argentina is attracting the interest of Liverpool, according to the Express.

The 18-year-old striker was actually on the radar of Arsenal, according to the report, but the Gunners pulled out of a deal for the then 16-year-old in 2015 after he picked up a cruciate ligament injury.

Now it seems like we are leading the race to sign Romero up. Tom Robinson, a South American football expert believes that the Argentine has a lot of potential. He was quoted as saying by the Express

“He’s a powerful, explosive centre forward who’s killed it at club youth level. His stats don’t jump off the page but he’s been in a pretty terrible Vélez side, mainly playing second fiddle to experienced Mariano Pavone.”

Robinson however, added that Romero would be getting a lot more time on the pitch now since Pavone moved to another side.

“Pavone has just moved to Estudiantes, so hopefully that should open up some game time for Romero. He’s still only 18, so time will tell as to how much the injury has affected him.”

A Surprising Link At The Moment For Liverpool

This link for Romero is a bit of a surprise, to say the least, as we already have a plethora of strikers and attackers at the club.

Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and even Roberto Firmino can be classified as strikers while we have Ben Woodburn and Rhian Brewster waiting in the wings, from the youth team. We also added Dominic Solanke from Chelsea to add to our list of strikers at the club and it is tough to see just where Romero would play in terms of the first team.

Jurgen Klopp is known for giving young players a chance in the first-team and has seen the progress of a number of academy players into superstars – something that would attract Romero as he looks to reach another level in his career.

The youngster should probably end up playing in the reserve side should he join us ahead of the campaign and possibly play in a few cup games.

We have European commitments this season and that would mean a lot of squad rotation, thus providing opportunities for our young players to show a thing or two.

Ben Woodburn grabbed that chance extremely well last season as he became our youngest ever goal scorer and maybe Romero is the striker that could be the next big thing at Anfield.
