Gerrard Was Not Impressed One Bit After BT Sport Pundit Claimed Everton To Finish Above Liverpool

The Premier League is just a few days away and almost every pundit out there is claiming which team will win the title but there are also a number of other positions up for grabs like the European slots or those who will get relegated.

BT Sport have a set of pundits who were doing just that during the Community Shield clash between Arsenal and Chelsea, which the Gunners won on penalties. Frank Lampard stated that Chelsea would be winning the title again while our former captain, Steven Gerrard, claimed that the Reds would be the closest challengers to the Blues.

The panel also had former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle in the hot seat and the Englishman added that Spurs would make it to the top four come the end of the season even though Mauricio Pochettino has not been able to add talents to the side.

Hoddle also added that Everton could be a surprise package in the Premier League and after their massive spending, they could break into the top six.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Hoddle said:

“I think Everton might surprise a few people.. they could definitely [get into the top six] and challenge.”

That certainly did not sit down too well with our current U18 manager and you could see the surprise and a bit of disgust from Gerrard after what Hoddle said.

While Everton have spent big in their transfer window, they have lost out on their prized asset in Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker moved to Manchester United but the Toffees did get Wayne Rooney back into the side.

We, on the other hand, have only brought in three new players so far but have kept together the core of the side that did so well in the first half of the season. There are doubts about the future of Philippe Coutinho but he does seem to be staying.

The Merseyside Derby will be an indicator of how close Everton are to us and there still might be a few more additions to our squad before the end of the window. While Gerrard did not look too pleased with the comments made by Hoddle, we can do our own bit to ensure that Everton don’t get into the top six by winning both our games in the league, like we did last season.
