Chris Sutton Had This To Say About Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp After The Man City Rout

Former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic striker Chris Sutton, who is now a commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live, has said that Liverpool are moving in the right direction under Jurgen Klopp. He, however, admitted that they are having issues in defending, but their positive approach to the game is something brilliant to watch. Liverpool started their new Premier League campaign on a relative low as they failed to defeat a resilient Watford unit, only managing a 3-3 draw. This was followed by the Champions League playoffs against Hoffenheim and making no mistake this time around, the Reds emerged victorious 6-3 on aggregate. And what followed next was sheer brilliance.

Arsenal made a trip to Anfield and the Reds brutally demolished the Gunners by a thumping 4-0 margin. From defence to attack, everyone played on their toes and didn’t allow Arsenal a single clear-cut chance to have a go at their goal. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and even Daniel Sturridge scored against Arsenal that afternoon and something similar was expected in their next outing.

A trip to the Etihad was scheduled this past weekend and Jurgen Klopp had forgettable time in Manchester. Sergio Aguero had just opened the scoring and the Reds, while searching for an equaliser, lost Sadio Mane to a red card. The Senegalese received his marching orders after he (unintentionally) stamped his boot on Ederson’s face. After the event, it was City’s game to lose.

The Citizens took full advantage of their extra man and added four more goals, with Gabriel Jesus and substitute Leroy Sane scoring a brace each . A reality check maybe, but Jurgen Klopp’s failure to sign defensive reinforcement backfired against City.

BBC commentator Chris Sutton, however, feels that even though Liverpool were miserable against Manchester City, their style of play under Jurgen Klopp makes them a brilliant team to watch.

“Liverpool are moving in the right direction. They’re brilliant to watch,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live (as quoted by The Sport Review).

“They’ve got issues at the back. But Liverpool are on the up and full of positivity where Arsenal are embarrassing.”

There is no denying that the Reds have transformed under the German brilliantly, as in his first season in charge, they entered into the EFL Cup and Europa League final. Last time around, we finished in the top four and earned a way back into the Champions League and there is a strong belief that Liverpool are actually progressing season after season. The defeat against City will be disappointing, but the Reds, led by Klopp, will definitely turn things around.
