Report: Liverpool Lineup Move For Impressive Forward From Mexico To Team Up With Gerrard

Liverpool are reportedly tracking 17-year-old Mexican wonderkid Diego Lainez with a view of making a professional contract offer. According to reports from his native, ESPN Deportes, Liverpool are keen to bring him to the Merseyside.

The youngster was a part of the Mexico Under-17 side that participated in the World Cup in India. Lainez was the best performer for his side during the tournament and the Anfield giants have been reported to have taken note of his exploits.

Mexico were eliminated by Iraq at the round-of-16 stage but Lainez was their best player who emerged with most credits, from their disappointing campaign.

The 17-year-old has already broken into the first-team of his club – Liga MX side America – since his return from India, playing 73 minutes in the cup game against Cruz Azul.

The diminutive player has long been earmarked as one of Mexico’s most exciting young prospects. He made his competitive debut, against Santos in March 2017 and has since been growing by leaps and bounds.

Lainez lined up for Mexico in the Under-17 World Cup group stages against England. Although the Three Lions won the match 3-2, it was Lainez who cornered all attention.

Liverpool already have an Under-17 star from the World Cup – Rhian Brewster who has taken the world by storm and led England to the tournament glory. There are even reports that Jurgen Klopp could look at linking him with the first-team squad and give him better chances of development.

Should Lainez be offered a chance to join Anfield as well, he would have a chance to integrate with club legend Steven Gerrard who is in charge of the club Under 18s. With a focus on developing youngsters, Liverpool’s penchant to sign Lainez is understandable.

Let us hope that there is no undue pressure on the youngster to choose clubs or to perform at specific levels. It is important that he enjoys his football, which is what Klopp would help him with. But, remember this name, as the Mexican youngster is sure to hog the headlines in the coming years.
