Jurgen Klopp Is Already On The Lookout To Sign A Defender In Jan – £28m La Liga Star Linked

Liverpool fans might find some good news here as we’ve been linked with a central defender. The Daily Mail claims we are tracking one of the rising defenders in the world. The report suggests that we want to sign Clement Lenglet, who plays as a central defender for Sevilla.

The 22-year-old Frenchman did play for Sevilla in our 3-3 draw against them in the Champions League. The defender has already played in 12 La Liga games and has scored a couple of goals but it is his ability to play the ball out from the back that would have caught the eye of a number of scouts.

Lenglet has a release clause which is rumoured to be around £28m, which is nothing compared to some of the prices being paid for top defenders in the Premier League. The Frenchman does have a lot to learn as centre-backs normally get to their best at 25-26 years of age. However, we need someone to solve our lack of quality in the heart of the defence.

Lenglet could be the player to replace Dejan Lovren, given that he can play on the left-hand side of the defence. He has also played as a left-back, which is a position we might also think of upgrading in the future.

The report claims that a number of top clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Frenchman and his release clause would not be an issue for any of these clubs.

Another Risk To Be Taken By Jurgen Klopp?

Jurgen Klopp’s signings in defence haven’t really worked out. Well, most would argue that he has not really signed a lot of players but getting Lenglet would be a major call given that he is young and has not played in the Premier League till now.

The Frenchman might be one of the rising stars in Spanish football but he needs to be bedded into the Premier League and that is something we do not have time for at the moment.

Lenglet would be a good addition if we give him a year or so to grow, as Klopp seems more or less interested in signing Virgil van Dijk. That is one deal that might happen in the January window rather than the Sevilla man joining us.
