Liverpool’s young forward Brooks Lennon has made a permanent move to US club Red Salt Lake on a free transfer. According to Liverpool Echo, the transfer will be finalised next month. The 20-year-old had very limited chances at Anfield, thanks to the rich options that Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal. The youngster has spent the year at Utah as he went looking for the first-team action.
Lennon’s contract with Liverpool was set to expire at the end of the current season. Considering the amount of talent at the club, it was always going to be tough for him to break through.
The youngster joined the American club on loan back in March, although he scored only 3 goals and 4 assists in the 25 games he played. Real Salt Lake rode on the impressive youth display to finish the 2017 season strongly. They have now gone on to secure the services of one of the youngsters who helped the club turn things around! The 20-year-old Lennon’s performances follow his stellar showing for the U.S. at the Under-20 World Cup.
Lennon is a speedy right winger who can also play as a lone forward. He was solid with the youth teams at Anfield but issues related to his work permit in the U.K. limited his opportunities at Liverpool, eventually resulting in a loan to Real Salt Lake.
It remains unclear if the MLS club has paid something to get the player released from his contract early. As you know, his contract ends only next summer. Liverpool didn’t see future for Lennon at the club despite the player impressing all the way through the academy ranks.
We wish him a wonderful career ahead!
