‘One of the best I’ve played with’ James Milner waxes lyrical about Liverpool teammate ahead of the Porto game

Mohamed Salah has been a revelation since joining Liverpool at the start of the season and his team-mate James Milner has hailed the Egyptian for being “ruthless” in front of goal.

Salah, who joined the Reds from AS Roma last summer scored his 32^nd goal in just 38 Liverpool appearances by netting the opener in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

The diminutive Egyptian has shattered records with ease and poise in his debut campaign with the Reds and Milner believes the player deserves all the credit for settling into life at Anfield so easily.

“I’ve been lucky to play with some very good players throughout my career and he’s up there as well,” Milner told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I know he’s played in England before, but changing club and changing league again – there’s a big difference between England and Italy – settling down as fast as he has and hitting the ground running, scoring the goals and being as ruthless as he has… he’s a top player and that’s credit to the players around him but also the club for helping him settle as fast as possible.

“And the players he’s playing with as well, Bobby up there with him, Sadio and the guys behind him giving him the opportunities. I think you see how we play, we play as a team both going forward and defending as well and he’s a big part of it.”

Milner, who has won two Premier League titles with Manchester City, feels Salah contributes to the positive atmosphere within the club off the pitch, as well as on it.

“He’s had a great season so far and hopefully it continues. He’s a good character in and around the dressing room, he’s fit in well and very quickly, as you’ve seen, on and off the field and that’s important,” he added.

“I think we’re lucky to have a very good dressing room. Everyone gets on really well and I think you can see that with the performances on the pitch as well. He’s had a great season so far, but hopefully, he can keep that going and hopefully keep banging the goals in.”

Salah has already broken a host of records on his way to scoring 32 times across all competitions this season. He will be hoping to continue that record on Tuesday night if selected to face FC Porto in the second leg of their Champions League tie.
