Liverpool to give Barcelona a taste of their own medicine by signing star midfielder as Coutinho replacement

Barcelona might have gotten their man when they signed Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool for a deal worth £142m that was in the making for a while. Even though we got a lot of money from the sale, we still have not bought any player to replace the former Inter Milan man. Now, a report from Don Balon (h/t Daily Star) claims that we are looking to sign Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatian has been one of their most consistent players but his role has been limited under new manager Ernesto Valverde and with Liverpool looking for a replacement for Emre Can as well, it is no surprise that the former Sevilla man is being linked with a move to the Reds.

To be honest, we have been linked with Rakitic ever since the Coutinho rumours started to spread and signing him up might not be the best bit of business from our side.

Liverpool Need A Dynamic Player In The Summer

We have been extremely fortunate that even after selling Coutinho, we have kept our charge for a top-four finish and also a run in the Champions League. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has taken up the role in the midfield really well and we have changed our playing style too, as we are not reliant on some magic from the midfield.

Rakitic is a great passer of the ball but we already have that, somewhat, with Jordan Henderson and James Milner pulling the strings from the midfield. The Barcelona man is not the youngest player out there either and at 30 years of age, a move to the Premier League might not be the best decision for him.

Not to forget, we will be getting Naby Keita from RB Leipzig in the summer so that is another player who will be in the mix at Anfield.

Don Balon don’t have the best of records when it comes to getting their transfers right and this could be another such example where they are just trying to shoot arrows and hopefully, hit the target. Rakitic might leave in the summer but joining Liverpool seems to be out of the question, for now.
