“This boy is destined for the top” Former Reds star raves about Liverpool’s 21-year-old English midfield target

Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook has all the ingredients to play for one of the big six sides in the Premier League, according to pundit Jamie Redknapp. Bournemouth were in action on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur and were on course to cause a shock when Junior Stanislas put the Cherries in front.

But Dele Alli equalised for Spurs before Son Heung-min scored twice in the second-half and Serge Aurier added another to give the North Londoners a thumping 4-1 win at the Vitality stadium. It may have been a hugely disappointing afternoon for Bournemouth on Sunday, but Lewis Cook seemingly managed to earn a lot of plaudits for his performance.

Although he we was guilty for Spurs’ third goal, as he lost possession before Son scored his second of the game, the 21-year-old looked brilliant for Eddie Howe’s side.

And despite the 4-1 loss, Redknapp feels Cook has everything under his locker to play for one of the Premier League’s top teams.

“Lewis Cook may have made a mistake for Tottenham’s third goal but that should not take away from what was a brilliant performance,” Redknapp wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“Such was his maturity in midfield against Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele that it is hard to believe he has just turned 21.

“He has been on my radar since his days at Leeds but he has come on leaps and bounds at Bournemouth.

“In a year or so I am in little doubt he will get a chance to play for one of the big six sides. This boy is destined for the top.”

As per the Daily Star, the Liverpool scouts have watched Cook several times in what has been a fine first full season in the top flight for the player.

The Reds should be keen on strengthening the midfield in summer with Emre Can expected to leave our club having not signed a contract extension.

While we have Naby Keita arriving from RB Leipzig, there has to be more options in the midfield, although we will still have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should Can decide to leave Anfield in the summer.

Will Cook fit in at Liverpool? I feel so as the 21-year-old is immensely talented and keeps the potential to perform at the highest level.

If the English midfielder continues his growth in the same manner at the south coast, I reckon he could be in for some serious interest from top Premier League clubs.
