“We have nothing of the sort”: Serie A giants’ sporting director denies Liverpool approach for star player

Liverpool have not made an official bid for AS Roma keeper Alisson according to the Serie A club’s sporting director Monchi.

The Brazilian keeper has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield from last season and we got a close look at him during our Champions League semi-final win over the Serie A side.

A report from the Liverpool Echo claims that we have heavily scouted the keeper over the last season but could not strike a deal as the Serie A club wanted a huge amount for the 25-year-old.

Roma sold us Mohamed Salah to us for what seems to be a bargain and Monchi was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as he spoke about Alisson’s future at the Serie A club.

“In order for a player to leave, there have to be three elements in place – an offer, a yes from the club and from the player. As of today, we have nothing of the sort.

“We are happy to keep him, transfer rumours are normal at this stage.”

Liverpool’s search for a top quality keeper certainly would have intensified after a calamitous performance from Loris Karius in the Champions League final.

The 24-year-old was at fault for two goals we conceded and his future as the first choice keeper at Anfield might be in doubt, especially if we sign someone of the calibre of Alisson.

Alisson is a part of the Brazilian squad which is preparing for the World Cup and hopefully, we will be able to land him soon just like how we landed Fabinho.

The signing of the Monaco man was a bolt from the blue and there could be similar stories coming out as we look to mount a challenge for the Premier League title and more in the upcoming season.

We need to invest in a new keeper, someone who will be authoritative behind the backline and Alisson seems to be the man for the job.
