A report from Liverpool Echo has claimed that Liverpool are harbouring an interest in Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri. The Potters have been relegated to the Championship, meaning they are likely to face an exodus of players. And the former Bayern Munich star could be edging closer to an exit, with Liverpool lurking for a possible deal.

The player predominantly occupied the right-wing role at Stoke and he could be an excellent backup for Mohamed Salah. It remains to be seen if the deal goes through but if it does, Shaqiri could be a good choice to boost our depth up front.

He boasts a decent amount of experience and is skilled enough to make a difference as well. Granted, his performances with Stoke have not been all that encouraging but considering the dynamism of Liverpool’s current crop of players, Shaqiri could improve.

Also, over the course of the last season, we were lucky that Salah managed to remain in top shape. But if he were to get injured in the upcoming season, it goes without saying that Liverpool will need a reliable backup.

At 26 years of age, Shaqiri has time to make a mark for himself in the Premier League and he could be successful under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance. But if one of Shaqiri’s recent interviews are to be believed, the player continues to remain coy about his future.

In a video tweeted by the head of football at Blick Sport, Shaqiri mentioned that his agents will take care of his future.

He also went on to add that he is focusing on playing for his national team right now. It remains to be seen if we succeed in luring him to Anfield but if we do, it will be a good move by Klopp.
