Liverpool star’s compatriot praises ‘clever’ Klopp for countryman’s success at Anfield

Mohamed Salah

According to former Egypt international Mido, Mohamed Salah’s rich success at Liverpool is down to his manager, Jurgen Klopp (h/t The Express

).

Salah, 26, joined Liverpool from AS Roma last summer and went on to have a sensational season, scoring 44 goals in 50 games. The Egyptian flopped during his debut Premier League season with Chelsea and was sold to AS Roma after just 13 Premier League appearances over two underwhelming seasons.

But after Salah’s success at Roma, Klopp took a gamble and the move handsomely paid off as the Reds finished 4th in the league and reached the Champions League final last season.

The Egyptian star signed a new five-year contract with the club in the summer and got his second season off in emphatic style too, scoring the first goal in the 4-0 thumping of West Ham last weekend.

It remains to be seen if Salah can replicate his last season’s form but Mido believes that his compatriot’s success is all down to Klopp’s coaching.

“I think the key of Salah’s success last season is Jurgen Klopp. Because Jurgen Klopp put him in the right position,” Mido told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast. (h/t The Express)

“If you see Salah he was a winger at Chelsea, he was a winger at Roma, he was a winger at Fiorentina, even at Basel. He was a line player – he gets the ball one-v-one and he was far from the goal.

“But Jurgen Klopp has been very clever with the way he has made him play, made him tuck in, made him play like a second striker on the right, always close to the goal, always in that link-up position.”

Mido feels Salah’s blistering form in his debut season at Anfield is because of the lesser defensive work demanded by our gaffer.

“But the best thing Jurgen Klopp has done for him is that he doesn’t make him work hard when he doesn’t have the ball,” Mido added.

“He doesn’t defend a lot so he’s always fresh. If you see him, always when he’s playing there on the right, there is Milner there behind him.

Salah has started very well in his second season at our club. If he manages to reproduce last season’s form once again, I am certain that the Reds can topple Manchester City for the Premier League title.
