Ragnar Klavan has left Liverpool
to join Italian outfit Cagliari, our club’s official website has confirmed.Klavan, 32, joined the Reds from Augsburg in 2016 and made 53 appearances during his time on the Merseyside, scoring two goals. The Estonian made 25 appearances during his debut Premier League season, scoring once – in a League Cup tie at Derby County.
Primarily a centre-half, Klavan, who can also play as a left-back, featured 28 times last season including eight Champions League appearances as Liverpool reached the final. In addition, he also scored a memorable goal in a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor against Burnley on New Year’s Day back in January.
However, the Estonia international’s playing time at Anfield looked severely limited this season, with Joe Gomez in line to play more games in his favoured centre-back position. Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren all remain ahead of Klavan in the pecking order, while Fabinho and academy defender Nathaniel Phillips are also considered as options for that position.
With Klavan set to turn 33 in October, Jurgen Klopp
made a smart decision to sanction his sale one year prior to the expiration of his contract.Following Klavan’s permanent move to Serie A club Cagliari, here is how our fans reacted on Twitter.
