Former Liverpool defender John Scales believes the Reds will put up a tougher fight against Manchester City this season.
The defender was quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“Liverpool were way off Manchester City last season but the gap has been closed, so of course they can compete for the title.
“I don’t think City will find it anywhere near as easy as last season. They won’t be able to go on such a winning run and I‘m confident Liverpool will be battling with them.”
Scales played for us in the 90s, when our domination in the Premier League and Europe was coming to an end. Liverpool have never won the Premier League title but Scales believes this new side can deal with expectations under Jurgen Klopp
.“Klopp would have done his homework and it’s already obvious they can handle the pressure and expectation. The problems that previously let Liverpool down are slowly eroding away.”
The Reds have come close to winning silverware under our German manager and we have added quality players to the team.
Alisson, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho all joined in the summer and we did not lose any of our star players.
Scales lauded our signings in the transfer window and claimed that there is no better attacking trio than Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane right now.
The Reds are perfect after four games and lead the Premier League table with 12 points. Although there is a long way to go, there would be celebrations at Anfield if we continue playing like this.
