Liverpool charter private jet to fly injured superstar back to the UK – a blow to the Reds

Liverpool chartered a private jet to fly Naby Keita to the UK overnight after the Guinea midfielder picked up an injury during an African Cup of Nations game against Rwanda, according to the Mirror

.

The report adds that the midfielder picked up a hamstring injury and had to be piggy-backed off the pitch since there were no stretchers available.

Sega Diallo, a local journalist, tweeted that Keita did not know about the extent of his injury. His translated tweet read (h/t Mirror

):

“Already on the way to the airport @NabyDeco does not know if it’s serious. He will do an exam as soon as he arrives @LFC. He doesn’t think it’s too serious.”

Keita is the latest player to have picked up an injury in the international break. Mohamed Salah limped off while playing for Egypt while Virgil van Dijk was sent back to Liverpool after helping the Netherlands beat Germany 3-0 in a Nations League game.

James Milner picked up a hamstring problem during the Manchester City draw but could play for the Reds against Huddersfield if he takes part in first-team training, according to the Mirror.

Even with the injuries, Liverpool should start the game against Huddersfield as favourites. The Reds should have the squad depth to deal with injuries this season but hopefully, none of our players will be ruled out of the clash on Saturday.
