Liverpool inserted a clause to prevent La Liga giants from signing club’s players till 2021

Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona

Barcelona cannot sign any Liverpool players till 2021, according to Cadena Ser (h/t Daily Mail). The report claims that this clause was inserted when the Catalan giants signed Philippe Coutinho for £145million in the January transfer window.

Barca cannot sign any Liverpool players for three years, however, the Reds can decide to sell to the Catalan giants and forfeit that clause.

The report adds that Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move to the Catalan club, but again, the deal can only take place if we want to sell him.

This is an interesting clause that we seem to have put in when we sold Coutinho. Not only did we get a great deal for the Brazilian as he left us mid-season, and was cup-tied in the Champions League.

This clause also ensures that at least Barcelona cannot come jumping in for some of our players. Liverpool have a wealth of talent all around and the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Salah only seem to be getting better.

The Reds also have one of the best defenders in the world in Virgil van Dijk, and we spent big in signing Alisson and Naby Keita this season.

Coutinho has enjoyed a decent time at Barcelona as he won the league last season, however, it is unlikely that any Liverpool player can join him there soon.
