The Mirror reports that AC Milan, Roma and Napoli are interested in centre-back Dejan Lovren.
The Croatian has made just 11 starts in all competitions for the Reds in an injury-plagued season. The 29-year-old helped Croatia to the World Cup final but returned with an injury.
That allowed Joe Gomez to step up and keep Joel Matip and Lovren out of the first XI. Virgil van Dijk formed a great partnership with the Englishman before a lower leg fracture against Burnley in December.
The Croatian then picked up a hamstring problem which has allowed Matip to partner Van Dijk in the heart of the defence.
The former Schalke man has done extremely well recently as Liverpool
hold the best defensive record in the Premier League.Lovren was the first-choice alongside Van Dijk last season, but the Croatian has a mistake in his game, and his injury record this season would be a concern.
The 29-year-old is contracted till 2021 and the Mirror adds that Liverpool have an option to extend that by a year too.
Gomez’s form once he returns to the team will also be an important factor regarding our dealings with the defence in the summer.
A pairing of Van Dijk and Gomez looks great for the coming seasons, while Lovren could still be a decent squad player to have.
