Il Mattino (h/t Calciomercato) claims that Liverpool are “strongly” interested in signing Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne.
The Italian has scored 13 goals in all competitions for the Serie A side, and the report claims that the 27-year-old could be out of the club in the summer.
The report adds that Manchester City are also interested in the attacker and that Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis prefers to keep Insigne at the club.
The Napoli president is known to make a big statement or two and claimed in September that he would only sell the Italian for €200million, a fee that the Reds did not want to pay (h/t Calciomercato).
Insigne has been one of the most consistent players for Napoli in recent years. The 27-year-old can play across the front-line and has scored 31 goals combined in all competitions in the past two seasons.
Liverpool have one of the best attacks in the world but could do with more options too. The front three also need quality competition to push them to another level, and Insigne would easily provide that.
Battling Manchester City for one of the best from the Serie A won’t be easy given their financial strength.
However, the Reds are on the up and if Jurgen Klopp works his magic, Insigne’s head could be turned to Anfield should he leave the San Paolo.
