Games like these make the fans believe that something special is going on at Liverpool. The Reds seemed set to drop points against Tottenham despite taking the lead in the first half.
Roberto Firmino opened the scoring and the Reds should have made their domination count. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah wasted some glorious chances as the teams headed into the break separated by one goal.
Tottenham came out as a different side as Mauricio Pochettino tweaked his system. Lucas Moura equalised after some great work by Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier and Christian Eriksen.
That goal in the second half took the air out of us and Spurs had the much better chances to score. Moussa Sissoko blasted a glorious chance wide, and it seemed we would be finishing the game level.
However, Mohamed Salah headed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s floated cross towards Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman parried the effort onto Toby Alderweireld and the ball went into the net.
The crowd went ballistic as Salah ran off to celebrate the winner. It was a tale of two halves for us as we dominated the first. The second wasn’t too great, nevertheless, there were some great performances out there and here are the player ratings for the Reds.
Not the greatest outing by the Brazilian. Some of his decisions were weird and his kicking was awful on certain occasions too.
The youngster provided the cross that led to the winner and had some bright spots in the first half. He also hit the bar with a cross later in the game.
The Dutch defender kept us in the game when Moussa Sissoko was sent through by Son Heung-min. He kept the Frenchman in check as he blasted wide, and also ensured Harry Kane barely had a kick in the game.
The Cameroon defender didn’t really have to do much today. He was tested by Lucas Moura but nothing too difficult for him.
The Scot provided the cross for the opener and was great down the left for the Reds.
The captain gave away the free-kick which led to the goal we conceded and was taken off in the second half.
Milner did his normal bit in the midfield and was always looking to start an attack, especially in the first half.
The Dutchman didn’t have too many memorable moments in the game, but this was another typical Wijnaldum performance.
Salah had another frustrating evening as he couldn’t get that final bit in the attacking third. However, he came up with the match-winning moment, even if he was a little lucky with Lloris’ spill.
The Brazilian scored an important goal to give us a great start, but couldn’t build upon it in the second half.
Mane didn’t really have a great game to speak about. His curler just missed the post by inches, and that was as close as he got.
The Brazilian provided us with more steel in the midfield once he came on, and he surely should start more games.
Origi played down the left and had some decent moments as he won us a few corners.
