Bundesliga boss confirms holding talks with Klopp regarding £20m loan star’s future

Liverpool FC transfer news: Hertha Berlin boss confirms talks over Marko Grujic

Michael Preetz, the Hertha Berlin general manager, confirmed he has spoken with Jurgen Klopp to keep hold of Marko Grujic.

The Serbian midfielder enjoyed a great season with the Bundesliga side but they finished the campaign in 11th place.

Marko Grujic celebrates

Grujic played 22 Bundesliga games for the club, and the Liverpool Echo reports that the 23-year-old flew with the side to America for a 10-day end-of-season tour.

The Liverpool Echo adds that Hertha cannot afford to buy the £20million-rated Serbian but are hoping for a one-year loan deal.

Speaking at the club’s annual general meeting, Preetz said (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I’ll keep the ball rolling and our goal is to extend the loan by one year.

“We have a permanent exchange with Liverpool FC and have had some personal talks with Jurgen Klopp over the past week about Marko.”

Futures will be decided after the Champions League final

Preetz added that Liverpool would decide on the futures of the players after the Champions League final, which is scheduled on the 1st of June:

“Liverpool will sit down after the Champions League final to discuss the squad for the next season. We think Marko would do well for another season in Berlin to reach the level that Liverpool play.”

The Hertha boss added that Grujic wants to stay at the club and that he wants the Serbian to play for another season.

Liverpool have a tough decision to make regarding the future of Grujic. The Reds could make some decent money by selling the Serbian, however, the 23-year-old would provide us with another option in the midfield.

The Reds have several players fighting for the three slots in the middle of the park, and it will be interesting to see where Grujic plays next season.
