(h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is a doubt for the clash against South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations. The report claims that the 27-year-old missed training on Thursday due to common cold, and the Pharaohs face South Africa in the round of 16 tie on Saturday.
Egypt have won all their group games in the tournament, and the Liverpool forward has scored twice in the tournament.
Salah was also in great form for Liverpool as he shared the Golden Boot in the Premier League, and scored in the Champions League final against Tottenham.
Egypt’s chances of winning the AFCON lie heavily on Salah’s form, and it will be interesting to see if the forward is back before Saturday’s clash.
The home team are one of the favourites for the title and should have enough to get over South Africa even without the Liverpool star.
Sadio Mane’s Senegal are also favourites for the title, and the former Southampton attacker also needs to return without any problems.
The final of the AFCON takes place on 19th July, and our first game of the Premier League campaign is on 9th August.
The pair needs to rest before returning to Liverpool, and our hopes of landing more silverware also lie on their shoulders.
