Liverpool have confirmed that Divock Origi has signed a new long-term deal to remain at the club.
The Belgian had a fantastic campaign last time around and scored some crucial goals for the Reds.
Origi cemented his place in Liverpool history by scoring in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Tottenham.
The 24-year-old also scored a brace in the 4-0 semi-final second leg win over Barcelona in the Champions League and scored some important goals in the Premier League as well.
Origi moved above Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp last season and did an impressive job when leading the line. Roberto Firmino suffered an injury in the final weeks of last season but Origi ensured we had something to celebrate come the end of the campaign.
The Belgian joined the Reds as a 19-year-old from Lille and has had some tough times.
His loan spell at Wolfsburg was a failure and he picked up a serious injury against Everton in Klopp’s first season, which halted his growth.
The Belgian is slowly coming back to his best and told LiverpoolFC.com
that he always wanted to stay:“I always felt comfortable here. I made steps during my career, I say that I became a man here at this club, I signed when I was 19.
“When we had to make the decision I just wanted to speak with the club first and my entourage, but the feeling was always that I wanted to stay and extend my contract.”
Origi added that the club was amazing and believed there was something special happening at Liverpool.
The 24-year-old turned his Liverpool career around with a lot of hard work, and a new deal is the least he deserves for the goals scored last season.
Many Liverpool fans were happy at Origi staying at the club, and here are some of their reactions.
