Sadio Mane continued his good form for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Liverpool forward helped Senegal to the semi-finals of the competition as they defeated a 10-man Benin.
Mane set up the winner as Idrissa Gueye scored in the 69th minute. The former Southampton star was a little unlucky not to have scored, as two goals were ruled out for VAR (h/t Liverpool Echo
).The Liverpool Echo adds that Mane has been involved in more goals in the competition than any other player, and Senegal could face either Tunisia or Madagascar in the semi-finals.
Senegal have never won the AFCON and it would cap off a brilliant campaign for Mane if he can lead them to glory.
The 27-year-old helped Liverpool win the Champions League last season and also picked up the Golden Boot in the Premier League.
Most of Liverpool’s international players are on breaks and should return to Melwood for pre-season training soon.
However, Mane will still be busy with the African competition as the final is scheduled for 19th July.
This means that the Senegal star will be busy for another week before going off on a holiday, and it will be interesting to see if he features in the first Premier League game of the season on 9th August.
Liverpool‘s pre-season is underway and we have already seen more several players return to training.
