Liverpool players return for pre-season training
Liverpool veteran James Milner is out of a contract at the end of the season.
The Englishman has been one of our most consistent performers under Jurgen Klopp and helped us win the Champions League last season.
The 33-year-old, however, claimed he isn’t sure of a new deal with the Reds (h/t Express):
“As it stands, last year we spoke to the club and asked them if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time.
“We haven’t heard anything since, so that’s where we are at.”
Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison told talkSport that Milner has a reached a point where he deserves a contract, thanks to his performances and Jurgen Klopp would want the deal to be completed soon (h/t Express):
“I can guarantee you on a match day he probably does the most running out of all the players.
“I bet if you speak to Jurgen Klopp, he would say get the deal done as soon as possible, it’s the hierarchy [making the decision].”
Morrison added that the situation was weird for him and claimed Milner was one of the most consistent players in the Liverpool team:
“It’s strange to me, because I would have seven or eight James Milners in my team.
“You know what you’re going to get week-in week-out, he’ll always give you a seven or eight out of ten.”
The former Birmingham City striker believed the deal would be done but questioned why it was taking so long.
Milner was great last season, especially in our Champions League run, and hopefully, a deal is agreed upon soon.
The 33-year-old’s experience is a huge bonus for the Reds, and his versatility cannot be matched by anyone else in the side.
Milner played one entire season as our first-choice left-back. The Englishman can also play as a winger but most of his appearances came in the midfield last season.
The Reds do have several options for the midfield positions, however, we should keep Milner for as long as possible.
