Liverpool’s US tour did not go as well as expected, with the Reds failing to win any of their games.
The final match of the tour saw us play out a 2-2 draw with Sporting Lisbon, with Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum scoring the goals for the Reds.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring after Simon Mignolet made a mistake, and Wendel scored after half-time to make it 2-2.
There were no further goals in the second half as substitutes came onto the field and the Reds handed a debut to summer signing Sepp van den Berg.
The 17-year-old joined the Reds in June but has not been able to play for us in any of the pre-season games.
The former PEC Zwolle defender is highly rated and could play some minutes for us next season.
Liverpool needed a defender after last season’s troubles with injuries. Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez missed parts of the season, with Fabinho having to take up a role in central defence for a couple of games.
Sepp van den Berg still has a lot of time to develop and hopefully, he turns out to be a smart signing for the future.
Many fans were pleased to see the youngster get some minutes on the pitch, and here are some reactions from Twitter.
