Xherdan Shaqiri was one of the smarter signings in the previous summer window as he joined for a paltry sum from relegated Stoke City.
The Swiss international was never going to replace Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane in the starting XI but made a great impression early on in the previous campaign as he did his bit off the bench.
Shaqiri also made some starts for Liverpool in the first half of the season but fell down the pecking order after December.
The lack of first-team minutes has continued this season, with the Swiss not featuring in any of the games apart from the Community Shield clash.
Shaqiri spoke about his frustration regarding the lack of playing time and claimed that he has to solve this problem. Speaking to Langenthaler Tagblatt (h/t Mirror
), he said:“I’m disappointed that I did not play anymore. Nobody likes to sit on the bench. It’s clear that I want more time. I have to look at the situation and find a solution.”
The European transfer window is open until 2nd September, however, the Mirror adds that Liverpool would be reluctant to lose Shaqiri at this stage of the summer.
The Reds cannot add any players until the winter window and Shaqiri should feature later on in the campaign when our Champions League journey starts. Shaqiri is a quality member of the team and we need to keep him until the end of the season.
The winger has put up some important performances for the Reds but he needs to be a little patient regarding the current situation at Anfield.
