Liverpool didn’t make any big moves in the summer but landed a couple of youngsters with tons of potential.
Sepp van den Berg was signed from PEC Zwolle while Harvey Elliott joined from Fulham.
Van den Berg featured in some of our pre-season games, and there are high hopes from the 17-year-old.
The Dutch defender has trained with the first-team and told Fox Sports how the club is doing their bit to help him grow (h/t Daily Mail):
“They actually teach me everything. Virgil van Dijk, for example, who I can watch. They teach me how to win the Champions League final. That’s football.
“Everyone gives me tips. I am still young, so if I do something wrong, I will be told in a friendly way. If you really do something wrong, you will, of course, get blasted.”
The youngster then spoke about how he is learning a lot from one player in particular and added he wants to prove himself to the team:
“Everyone helps me. I can learn the most from Van Dijk. So if he gives me tips, I’ll save them. If I make a mistake like not stepping up, etc. Things like that. Things you need to know.”
The youngster should play in some of our cup games, possibly in the Carabao Cup clash against MK Dons.
The 17-year-old is one of the brightest talents we have in the team but he has a long way to go before becoming a regular in the first-team.
Liverpool have a fantastic defender being led by Virgil van Dijk, and the 28-year-old is the perfect player to guide Van den Berg.
The Reds have four quality centre-backs currently, however, we might need the likes of Ki-Jana Hoever and Van den Berg to step up in case some of our experienced defenders pick up injuries.
