Andy Robertson missed out on the final training session ahead of our Champions League opener against Napoli.
The Scottish defender played the entire game in the 3-1 win over Newcastle, however, the 25-year-old is a doubt for the clash against the Italians.
Jurgen Klopp told during the pre-match press conference that the decision to not train Robbo was a precautionary measure but added that the player would be assessed before getting the nod to play (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Robbo didn’t train today and we have to see. It is not a major thing, it was more precautionary today, but it is not 100 per cent sure [he will be available].
“We will have to test it tomorrow and then we will see.”
Robertson is one of the best left-backs in the world and not having him in the side does reduce some of our output from the full-backs.
Liverpool also have a tough game at the weekend with a trip to Chelsea, and it will be interesting to see if the Scot features against Napoli.
The Reds didn’t sign a replacement for Alberto Moreno in the summer and we don’t have senior cover for our Scottish left-back.
James Milner and Joe Gomez could play in that position should Robbo miss out, but neither of them can be compared to the Scot.
The game in Naples is the toughest away fixture we have in this season’s Champions League group stage, and we should avoid a defeat.
However, we have been excellent throughout the season and a win against the Serie A giants cannot be ruled out.
