Rhian Brewster was expected to play a part in Liverpool’s season this time around. The 19-year-old has had a tough time with injuries over the past two campaigns but impressed during the pre-season games.
However, the English youngster is yet to feature for the Champions League winners despite the Reds not having any senior back-up for Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool do have a packed schedule this month and Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo claimed that the Reds are being careful with Brewster:
“Liverpool are in no rush with Rhian Brewster. That long-term injury to his ankle and leg kept him sidelined for over a year and Jurgen Klopp won’t throw in the deep end for the sake of it.
“The club have lofty plans for the talented young striker, but there is no desperate need to involve him just now.”
The reporter added that the Carabao Cup clash against MK Dons could be the chance to see Brewster in action for the Reds.
“The upcoming game against MK Dons is viewed, from the Academy’s perspective at least, as the ideal match for Brewster’s senior debut.”
Gorst claimed that Roberto Firmino’s great start to the season had played a role in Brewster not getting any senior minutes.
One of the biggest stories in the transfer window was how Bobby Duncan forced his way out Anfield. His agent ripped into the club and Michael Edwards, but Brewster is unlikely to resort to such methods (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Brewster has been assured that he has a real future at first-team level. We will see him soon, no question.”
The 19-year-old is one of our brightest talents and it will be interesting to see how he performs for the senior side.
