Brendan Rodgers’ return to Anfield wasn’t great for the Leicester City manager.
The Northern Irishman missed out on the Premier League during his tenure at Liverpool but was given a warm reception ahead of the clash at the weekend.
James Milner stepped up to score a late penalty and hand us all three points. The English midfielder was one of Rodgers’ final signings during his spell here and the ex-manager shared some interesting information about the player.
Rodgers had gone to meet Milner and woo him to join the Reds on a free, and the Englishman wanted the switch with regards to winning the Champions League (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“It’s really, really interesting because he wanted to come to Liverpool. He had won the Premier League, he had won cups. His whole ambition was to win the Champions League and he felt that he would have a better opportunity to win it at Liverpool.”
The former manager lauded Milner’s professionalism and quality, and was certain the midfielder would score against the Foxes.
Manchester City have struggled to reach the Champions League
final, even under Pep Guardiola. However, Jurgen Klopp has taken us to three successive European finals, and we landed the Champions League last season.
We could have broken down after the heartbreak against Real Madrid a couple of years ago but we pushed on and put up a great showing in the previous campaign.
Milner finally got his Champions League title by beating Tottenham, and we seem set for more success under Jurgen Klopp.
We lead the Premier League by eight points after eight games and are yet to drop points in the campaign.
