Joel Matip back in training ahead of Manchester United game

Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of their clash against Manchester United.

Joel Matip returned to training on Tuesday after missing our last two games. The Cameroon defender didn’t feature against FC Salzburg and Leicester City, but the Reds won both clashes.

The 28-year-old has been in exceptional form since the tail-end of the previous season and seems to be the best partner for Virgil van Dijk.

Joel Matip

The club’s website confirmed that the centre-back was back in training as the Reds prepared for their trip to Old Trafford. Matip picked up a knock in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United and should go straight into the starting XI if he is fit.

Liverpool look better at the back with Matip

Joe Gomez was exceptional in the first half of last season, however, the Englishman looks a little rusty now. He did return from a fracture last season and that could be a reason why he looks a little out of touch.

Dejan Lovren did pretty well in the 2-1 win over Leicester but we should start Matip against the Red Devils. The 28-year-old has become a key player under Jurgen Klopp over the past 12 months, and our defence looks better with Matip in the middle.

United will do all they can to get the better of us but we should have enough to get the win at Old Trafford.

The Reds didn’t take advantage of a poor United team the last time we played at Old Trafford. However, we should pick up our ninth Premier League win in a row on Sunday.
