Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given his verdict on who he thinks is the best manager in the world. To the surprise of some, he hasn’t named himself.
Klopp insists that long-time rival and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is the ‘best manager in the world’ (h/t Sky Sports).
Klopp was quick to praise Guardiola’s work, commenting on how teams under Guardiola are a pleasure to watch.
“What he is doing with his team is incredible. The way they play, I really like to watch”
The German was quick to touch upon the personalities of both the managers rubbing off on their teams, providing a clear contrast to both the manager’s way of doing things (h/t Sky Sports).
“Pep and I, we are different, so our teams mirror our character. He is much finer than I am as a person so he is the gentleman and I look how I look on the touchline. Probably a bit more intense maybe.”
Klopp has never beaten Guardiola to the league title, something that is likely to change this year with Liverpool holding an 11-point lead over the Citizens with a game in hand.
Showing that he is aware of the particular fact, Klopp admitted that he isn’t overly bothered in coming out second best to the Spaniard. (h/t Sky Sports
)Having competed against the Spaniard since 2013 in two different leagues, Klopp has a good measure of the man he is up against.
No other manager has a better record against Guardiola than Klopp, even edging their head-to-head record by 9 wins to 7. (h/t Mirror)

Although Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the history of the game – and outdoes Klopp when it comes to trophies won – the German has always managed to provide a credible threat to Guardiola’s dominance.
In spite of Guardiola’s success, we would still choose Klopp over him at Liverpool. It is hard to find another manager in world football who would better suit our club’s identity than the German.
