Former Liverpool star urges club to strengthen these 2 positions in January

Emile Heskey feels Liverpool need more cover in attack

The Reds have already announced the signing of Japanese playmaker Takumi Minamino from Salzburg. The Japanese star is a versatile attacker who should fill in a variety of positions for the Reds going into the second half of the season.

Heskey believes that the club still requires a couple of signings with a striker and winger being the priority. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

“I think they’re pretty set for the rest of the season but I think they might need another striker and also a dynamic winger.”

Minamino will officially join the club on 1st January

With Liverpool reliant on the famed front-three for goals, any injury to one of them could potentially unsettle the attack. Heskey used the example of Manchester City having Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva to back up Leroy Sane who is out injured.

Heskey joined Liverpool in 2000 and was a part of the squad that won the cup treble in the same season.

With Liverpool having a sizeable lead at the top of the table, it is the Red’s best chance in years to end the league drought. We have a capable squad that will be strengthened further by the arrival of Minamino and the return of Xherdan Shaqiri from injury.

Klopp has put faith in Divock Origi as the backup striker and the Belgian has repaid his manager’s faith more often than not. Whether Liverpool will sign anyone else this January remains to be seen.
