With Andrew Robertson the only senior specialist left-back at the club, James Milner has had to step in as a backup whenever required.

Clarke, who recently featured in a line-up assembling the statistically best rated English players, has been touted as the top choice to be the Scotsman’s understudy. (h/t Sky Sports)

Having moved to Vitesse from 2018, Clarke has impressed during his time in the Netherlands and has racked up 43 appearances.

Clarke’s crossing statistics make him an ideal candidate for the system Liverpool play and will stock the left flank with quality and quantity.

The 23-year-old has had a stellar season, scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists in 17 appearances. He also averages more shots, tackles, key passes and clearances than Robertson while winning more than double the aerial duels that the Liverpool left-back has this season.
