The Dutchman is one of Jurgen Klopp’s earliest signings at Liverpool. Wijnaldum has thrived since his arrival from Newcastle in the summer of 2016.

Wijnaldum has made 166

appearances for the Reds and has notched up 16 goals. Two of them in the famous comeback against Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Semi-finals at Anfield.

Having signed nobody for the first team the previous summer, the club has been busy extending the contracts of important players and staff and are keen to retain the spine of a championship-winning squad that is still in its prime.

Liverpool are looking into devising a fresh and lucrative deal for the Dutchman and would also be happy to retain his services for another 18months before his current deal expires. (h/t Daily Mail)

Other alternatives include getting the best out the player for the remainder of his contract at the club or to sell the player next summer and receive a large fee by inciting a bidding war.

The player is said to have potential suitors from Spain and Italy with other Premiership clubs also interested. (h/t Daily Mail)
