Steve McManaman warns Real Madrid over Sadio Mane interest

Former English international Steve McmManaman knows something about playing at the highest level. The flying winger made a name for himself on Merseyside before going on to win the Champions League with Real Madrid.

As someone who has played for both clubs, you can count on him to have a view regarding the duo. The former player has given his view on Madrid’s interest in Liverpool ace Sadio Mane.

According to horseracing.net (h/t Metro), McManaman revealed that he will not be losing any sleep over the Senegalese being linked with a move to the Spanish capital.

“I’ll take rumors of Real Madrid’s interest in Sadio Mane and Erling Haaland with a pinch of salt”

Steve McManaman has represented both Liverpool and Real Madrid in his career

Since joining Liverpool in 2016, Mane has gone on to become one of the league’s best players. He has scored 77 goals and 34 assists in 161 games for the Reds. He played a key role in Liverpool’s two Champions League finals on the bounce, the latter of which we won.

Earlier reports had claimed that Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is keen on the player and has asked the Madrid management to splash a mammoth £140million

to secure his signature.

A step-up no more!

The Frenchman would have witnessed the Senegalese striker’s abilities in the 2018 Champions League Final. The 27-year-old was the Reds’ best player on the night. He brought his team level before Gareth Bale settled the tie in Madrid’s favour.

McManaman believes that Liverpool have no reason to fear losing the player to Real Madrid. In spite of having been knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Liverpool are still very much among the best teams in the continent.

McManaman believes that Real Madrid and Barcelona are currently below Liverpool and have a major rebuild on their hands in the coming seasons.

“I don’t think there’s any chance of either Sadio Mane or Mohammed Salah going to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

Having come through the youth ranks, McManaman spent nine seasons at Anfield. He made 362 appearances for the club and scored 65 goals and 33 assists before making a free transfer to Madrid.

McManaman went on to become the first English player to win the Champions League with a non-English club. He won the competition twice during his time in Madrid.
