Liverpool have been handed a mini-boost in their hopes of landing their first Premier League title.
The Premier League was suspended until 3rd April. However, that has changed now after the EFL, PL and FA released a joint statement.
UEFA announced that Euro 2020 would be postponed to help create more space in this year’s calendar. The new announcement
by the three bodies confirms that they want to complete the 2019-20 season and are willing to extend the season “indefinitely”.This goes against the FA’s normal rules that a season cannot go beyond June 1. The release added that things will be reassessed constantly and Government advice would be followed regarding COVID-19.
There were some fears that the season would be called off due to the pandemic. However, extending it indefinitely makes sense as more than half of the season has already been played.
The Reds need another six points to wrap up their first Premier League title, however, the health and safety of all involved has to be the biggest priority.
Liverpool have had to wait for almost 30 years and waiting a few more months for a first title certainly might take a toll on the fans. However, many were pleased with the release by the football boards, and here are some of their reactions from Twitter:
The Reds hold a 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, and hopefully, the Premier League resumes as quickly as possible.
