Andy Robertson believes to be player behind generous food-bank contribution

Liverpool star Andy Robertson is a tough customer on the field. He is known to get under the opponent’s skin and fluster them. It is a different matter altogether as he continues to set an example by giving back to society.

Robertson’s tryst with food-banks started even before his move to Liverpool. On his 21st birthday, he famously asked his friends and well-wishers to donate to the East Renfrewshire Foodbank near Glasgow instead of buying him gifts. Then a rather unknown player at Hull City, the Scot has progressed up the ranks and is today considered as one of the best left-backs in world football.

His dramatic rise and success have not wavered his willingness to help the needy. According to the Times, it is believed that the mystery player who made a major donation to keep six food banks in Glasgow and surrounding areas going in none other than the Scotland captain.

According to the report, Glasgow NE Foodbank, located near Celtic Park has provided more than 53,000 meals for locals. The organization took to Twitter to thank the ‘unnamed’ player for his generosity and expressed their gratefulness to the gesture.

Apart from the Glasgow NE, other food banks such as the Glasgow SW Foodbank, Glasgow NW Foodbank, Glasgow SE Foodbank, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank, and East Renfrewshire Foodbank have also benefitted from the player’s generosity.

In a time of grave peril, every little contribution matters and this show of communal support from one of Scotland’s heroes will benefit a number of the needy and the destitute.

A hero off the pitch as well!

Robertson actively takes part in charity work. He, however, does not like to publicize his activities. He also contributes regularly to the foodbanks active around the Liverpool area since moving to the club in 2017.

He also rewarded a 10-year-boy with a signed Roberto Firmino jersey after it was revealed that the youngster had donated his pocket money to the local food bank.

Robertson rose from being a reject at Celtic Park to a European champion with Liverpool. His performances have also seen him take over as the Scottish captain last year. One of the Reds’ most dependable players, he continues to be a hero not just on the pitch, but off it as well.
