Rio Ferdinand compares Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold to Brazil legend Cafu

According to a report by Liverpool Echo, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has compared Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to Brazilian legend Cafu.

The report suggests that the right-back is one of the frontrunners for the PFA Young Player of the Year award following a stellar campaign with the Reds.

Our 25-point lead at the top of the table remains intact despite the fact that the season has been suspended until the end of April. It remains to be seen how the coronavirus situation fares over the next few months or so. Depending on that, we would be able to figure out as to when we may lay our hands on the elusive Premier League title.

Regardless, until the season got suspended, Trent was putting in reliable performances on a consistent basis and Ferdinand said as much while speaking on an Instagram Q&A session (h/t Liverpool Echo).

“I saw him against Atletico Madrid at Anfield. From right-back, for 45 minutes in the first half, if any kid wants to see a player playing the modern game at right-back, get that 45-minute clip,” said Rio.

“The way he controlled that game from right-back… the last person I saw do that was maybe Cafu,” he mused.

Having provided 12 assists so far this term, Trent has been one of our best players in recent times. And Rio admitted that he didn’t care what people said and dubbed the 21-year-old an “absolute mad footballer”.
