Liverpool target’s club chief admits transfer window uncertainty amidst coronavirus pandemic

Markus Krosche gives update on Timo Werner to Liverpool

The coronavirus pandemic has led to a lot of uncertainty in many different fields. Football is no exception, with the current season under suspension. Given the dynamic nature of events, it is unsure when the various leagues can resume playing.

The delay in the on-field action has a trickle-down effect on the activities off it as well. One such example is that of the summer transfer window. The same issue seems to be on the mind of RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche.

According to Sport 11 (h/t  Express), Krosche has admitted to uncertainty about the transfer market post coronavirus crisis. The German is tasked with keeping star striker Timo Werner at the club amidst strong interest from European champions Liverpool.

Timo Werner is one of Europe’s deadliest strikers

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remains an admirer of his countryman who has plundered in 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances so far this season. The Reds are looking to step up their pursuit of Werner, who has a release clause of £50million. The club has to act fast with the clause set to expire at the end of April.

Krosche also went on to admit that he is unsure as to how the current situation will affect Werner’s future. He brought to notice that the whole world is embroiled in the same concerns and no one knows what things will be like in six months.

An uncertain future!

He has, however, admitted that anything is possible. As of now, things are uncertain and future developments in the market will have to be seen as they come.

“We do not know what our resources are and what the other clubs have in terms of opportunities.”

Krosche has discreetly revealed where his loyalties lie by admitting that Werner doesn’t have much to gain by leaving the club. However, that comment is hardly surprising given his position at Leipzig.

Timo Werner has impressed for Leipzig this season

Manchester United and Chelsea were also keen on the player. Given his public comments praising Liverpool and Klopp, they have decided to back off, leaving the Reds with a clear go for the German ace.

At Anfield, Werner will have the opportunity to play under one of the best managers in the team. He will strengthen a team on the rise as the Reds once again look to become a dominant force in English and world football.

It makes sense for us to agree on a deal for the player before his release clause comes to a close. The player can then join the club when next season starts. However, the feasibility of that happening will be known by the ones involved and we will have to just wait and watch.
