According to Liverpool Echo (h/t Express), former Liverpool star John Aldridge believes Sadio Mane will struggle to win the Ballon d’Or if he moves to Barcelona.
The reason for that is the current winner of the trophy – Lionel Messi. The Argentine superstar is arguably the greatest player the game has ever seen. If he does move to Barcelona, Mane will have to settle for living in Messi’s shadow.
These comments come in the light of the recently released documentary on the Senegalese star’s life. He had revealed that it was a dream of his to win the award.
Although it may appear that he has to move to the Nou Camp to stand a chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, Aldridge believes it isn’t so. (h/t Express)
Aldridge believes that it is hard to keep players at a club in the modern era. He has, however, labelled Mane an exception and appreciated his humility.
The former Liverpool striker does not view the Senegalese star as someone who would angle for a move away, unlike former fan favorite Fernando Torres
.“Mane can win the Ballon d’Or as he’s a great player. And he has as much chance winning it while at Liverpool than anywhere else.”
Aldridge took up the case of Philippe Coutinho to showcase that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

The Reds are the reigning European and World champions. It can be argued that we are a better side than both Real Madrid and Barcelona at the moment. It is difficult to see what he can achieve in Spain that he cannot do so at Anfield.
