We hope celebrity Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher is not hungry. He has just been served a large slice of humble pie by Jurgen Klopp’s marauding Liverpool side.
The Reds came second last season despite finishing with an incredible 97 points. The fact that we could not pip City to the title in spite of such numbers was a source of amusement for Gallagher.
Speaking on Sky Sports prior to the start of the current campaign, he described our predicament as “too funny”.
He backed City to stay at the top as long as Guardiola is at the helm. He believed that no other team could compete with the Sky Blues in the near future.
Gallagher did get one thing right when he claimed Liverpool would not get near City. We are currently miles above City with a comfortable 25-point gap. The gap between the top two sides has never been any wider.
With the Reds needing just six more points, Gallagher admitted on talkSport (h/t Liverpool Echo) that the Reds should be given the title since they already have it in the bag.
“They’ve won it anyway. They should just give it to them.”
The former Oasis vocalist also gave his two dimes regarding the continuation of the current campaign. He believes that matches should not take place behind closed doors. Gallagher believes fans will turn up if matches resume and that such an action would be counter-productive.
It is a good feeling to see yet another detractor be proved wrong. Klopp and his team do their talking on the pitch, where it really matters. The Reds are on the rise and not even a ‘wonder wall’ can keep them out.
