“I like challenges” – Rising German star opens door to a move ‘abroad’ amidst Liverpool links

Kai Havertz not averse on a move abroad amidst Liverpool interest

According to German publication Bild (h/t Standard), Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz is open to a move abroad if the right opportunity presents itself.

This will come as good news to Liverpool, who are among the clubs interested in the player. The Reds will face competition from arch-rivals Manchester United, who are also keen.

“I am ready to make a big step and I like challenges. That includes abroad.”

Havertz came through the ranks at Leverkusen before making his first-team debut in 2016. In spite of being happy at the club, he has admitted that he will need to take a step up in his career to realize his ambitions.

In spite of being just 20, Havertz has already made 139 appearances for Leverkusen and has scored 38 goals and 30 assists.

German powerhouse Bayern Munich continue to be linked with a move for the player. Although the Bavarians could be considered the favourites, the player’s future is far from decided.

A midfield rebuild

Midfield is an area Liverpool will need to add to in the coming windows. The likes of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum will turn 30 this year, while James Milner is not getting any younger.

Naby Keita too has failed to impress consistently, leaving an opening for a new player to come in and impress. Havertz is a skilful youngster and matches the profile of a player the club is interested in.

The Liverpool midfield has lacked imagination at times and has been far too predictable. The 20-year-old should be a worthwhile addition to negate those shortcomings.

Havertz is one of Europe’s outstanding young players. He has shown he has the ability to compete with the best and now looks as if he is prepared to take the step up.

Liverpool are probably the best team in the world at the moment. Jurgen Klopp is known for nurturing youngsters into world-class players. It remains to be seen if Havertz will also be added to that list.
