According to the club’s official site, Liverpool has turned the Anfield pitch into a tribute for the NHS.
With the coronavirus pandemic spreading across the world, healthcare professionals have become our first line of response. In the UK, the NHS has stepped up to the task and are involved in selfless service to the society.
Ahead of today’s clap for our carers initiative, the club has decided to go the extra mile by making a tribute to the NHS’s bravery and selflessness.
The Anfield turf has been carefully marked by LFC’s ground team using a GPS line marker. ‘NHS’ was marked out in huge letters on the turf along with ‘YNWA’ – the club’s motto of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” A song that takes special significance in these times.
According to the statement, the club joins the nation in paying tribute and saying a heartfelt ‘thanks’ as people up and down the country come together to show appreciation and gratitude for the heroism of health professionals and other key workers during these challenging times.
Football has not been immune from the pandemic. Players are currently in self-isolation and training from their homes in line with the government’s guidelines on social distancing.
Liverpool are also involved in other activities that directly help the local community. The club alongside the LFC Foundation and Red Neighbours also pledged £40,000 to back Fans Supporting Foodbanks
in the absence of Premier League football. The club also launched an initiative known as LFC Connect. Its aim is to encourage elderly people around the community to keep in touch and share any issues or worries they have.Liverpool had previously come under fire for furloughing non-playing members of the staff. The decision has since been reversed following public outcry. (h/t BBC)
