Liverpool could sign Belgian wonderkid dubbed the new Sadio Mane after missing out in 2017

Liverpool can sign Jeremy Doku in a cut-price deal in upcoming transfer window

According to the Express, Liverpool could sign Belgian wonderkid  Jeremy Doku in a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.

This is not the first time the Reds have expressed their interest in the player. The 17-year-old was close to a switch to Anfield in 2017, with both Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard at their persuasive best.

Hoku came through the ranks at Anderlecht and is today considered to be one of his country’s finest young talents. He has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Belgian top division and has scored three goals and three assists in 21 appearances

. This included an impressive brace in the 7-0 thrashing of Zulte Waregem. This was before the season was cut short following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Liverpool are not the only side keen on the player. According to Belgium-based football agent Cheikh Fall (h/t Express), the forward’s performances have drawn attention from a number of Premier League sides.

He also went on to add that Doku could be available on the cheap, owing to the current financial situation. If that proves to be the case, Liverpool should not miss out on a player they failed to convince two years ago.

Rekindling the flame

Dubbed the next Sadio Mane, the player has already visited Melwood along with his family. The player and his family were taken aback by the reception they got on Merseyside and were keen for the player to move to Liverpool. (h/t Daily Star)

Unfortunately for us, Anderlecht eventually convinced the player to stay. Doku has represented Belgium Under-17s in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2018. Still only 17, he has gone on to make four appearances for the Under 21s and has scored one goal.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will manage to sign the Belgian or not. If we do, he will join a number of promising talents already at the club.
